~A Prophesy for the Time~
There has been such a stirring in my spirit of late about the coming harvest and the collapse of the economy. For about a year now I have heard the prophecies of America being judged, perhaps even for more than a year- for an entire decade. Yet it never came. I graduated college in 2008 at the height of the most recent economic crisis. There were no jobs and the job market was scary for someone like me who was just beginning. The majority of my contemporaries did not find ministry positions. A few weeks ago my heart was shattered and broken to hear the Lord speak into my spirit: A great depression is coming, and a great harvest will come out of it. I was immediately startled and then in the following few days I found Heidi Baker’s vision of Americans driving Cadillacs yet standing in bread lines. What I felt from the Lord was no different than what God is speaking all across this nation. He is saying it in numerous voices, streams, and ministry types. I stand with my generation to declare the things that will come and also declare the providence and protection of Jesus to stand during that time.
I see churches all across America filled with people while local pastors are very busy shepherding and taking care of the flock. As I have looked at America for years I have said to myself, “It will take an extreme occurrence for America to come to know Jesus. It will take the absence of their wealth and a calamity.” In 2008 we were all hit yet we recovered. What is to come will bring America to its knees but will also allow it to proclaim the Lordship of Christ.
As I write this I remember that each person who reads this may not know or buy into such a theory, such as I had not done previously. But I believe God has plans for people to preserve and protect them during that time. I immediately think of changing fields of jobs, God asking a person to invest in particular fields and not others, and to stop and pick up random things. I believe Jesus has begun to ask his people all over America to be prepared. He is preparing them. He is asking unusual things of them to provide and make a way for them during that time. Our reactions to hearing the request of Jesus is startlement, puzzlement, and concern. Why do such a thing? No-one really knows. Yet God has plans for America and he has plans for you and I. He is not finished yet.
I write this fully realizing I have no idea when this will occur. Will the next president tank the economy ushering in the depression? Is it 10 or even 20 years down the line? I don’t know and will not pretend that I do. All I can do is pray everyone is prepared. I immediately think of the story of Joseph in Genesis 41. Joseph was placed in a position to not just prepare the land, but to make it safe for the duration of the time. As a minister I will be one of those hard hit. Yet I have changed directions, planted in new fields, and I am sowing for the harvest. I am preparing and beginning so that I might be ready to harvest during that time.
In the face of such a profoundly difficult word I have hope. Only in Jesus will the worst situation be taken for the glory of the Kingdom of God! Only Jesus can take a disaster and build his Church through it. America will be saved! America will come to know Jesus! Our churches will be filled! It will be incredible and amazing and oh so very terrible. Yet the One who holds all seasons in the palm of his hand has prepared a way. He is the Way and he will lead people through during that time. Let it be. Amen.
Genesis 41: 18-36 “It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do. Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt, but seven years of famine will follow them. Then all the abundance in Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will ravage the land. The abundance in the land will not be remembered, because the famine that follows it will be so severe. The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon.
And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, to be kept in the cities for food. This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine.”
